News : HWS Race 4 - Another Elan 1-2 [Nov 1]

With 20 knot+ southerlys a lively race was had by the IRC2 fleet this week. A packed boat end of the start line saw us crossing immediately behind the 420/470 boys on Hearty Harry before tacking across to take an early advantage of the west-going tide towards Peel Bank.

With the breeze continuing from the South and not going right as early as expected, and being underpowered on the Island shore with only a no. 3 and a reefed main, we rounded slightly astern of Quokka, Prime Suspect and Puma Logic.

Good work down the run with our new Galliford Try logo's Sanders AP kite and then back up the beat with full main and no.3 saw us, Quokka, Incognito and Puma Logic break from the fleet.

Another good run, a change to our sterling heavy no.1 and a fantastic beat saw us take all three boats (Eddie Mays should have some marvellous pictures of us and Quokka side by side up the beat)and have the very slenderest lead into Norris, the last windward mark.

With Incognito and Puma Logic splitting to the right, but not being a threat due to needing to make up too much time, we went left with Quokka immediately astern, a slightly early drop into Hill Head left us with work to do on the beat to the line and despite pulling away from Quokka we were unable to put sufficient time in to salvage a corrected time win, missing out by a mere 40 seconds. So once again an Elan 1-2 but with the 37 taking the honours!
