With glorious sunshine and a warm, shifty north-westerly breeze it was out with the Gul shorts and shore jackets and off with the slopettes and smocks this weekend in the Solent! After a week off to support Macgregor Jnr Mk3 (Kate)in her 420 campaign at the RYA Junior Championships in Largs, owner/skipper Jim returned with typical verve and signalled his intentions early on with a keenly contested port tack approach to the pin end of the line in race 4. With most of the fleet cruising down the line on Starboard towards the slightly favoured pin-end it was a case of picking our slot, which we did to perfection, flicking over to starboard underneath the Bavaria Match 35 "Fairview Racing" before returning to Port early and making good use of the steady breeze slightly off the Lee on the Solent shore to lay the first mark ahead of the rest of the fleet. Maintaining our position for until the last leeward mark when the much faster rated Assassin managed to sneak through ahead we played shifts and breeze up the final beat to cross the line 10 seconds behind Assassin and the big Swan "Junkanoo" and, for the first time in the series, ahead of the Elan 37 "Quokka", unfortunately not far enough ahead to save our time and we have posted another second place!!
