With another forecast of gales for the weekend, the second race of the Warsash Spring Series was looking just as unlikely as the first. Racing for the white group (sportsboats) was abandoned on shore, while the blue group (larger yachts) headed out to the start area, mostly under engine. With the reef in the main, and number 3 headsail, we sailed down to the committee boat to unsurprisingly find a postponement as the Race Officer considered the conditions. After an hour of cruising back and forth, another strong squall came through the Solent, swinging the decision to abandon any attempts at racing and send the fleet scurrying back home. Despite the disappointment of not racing it was good to get some fresh air, which was actually quite pleasant in the sunny spells. This week was the first outing of our "Team GUL" kit, comfortably returning 12 warm and dry sailors back to the clubhouse. Hopefully next week it will be third time lucky, and we shall have to see if perhaps two races are scheduled. Regards, Jim.
